Pg 4

Trial History of Early Walking Combat Machines
The Development of the initial walking combat machines, the E.T..

E.T.01 Mk II Spider

It is the initial type of combat use E.T..  Two large 80 mm rocket launchers are attached to the body, which house 40 missiles each.  It is said that it's maximum walking speed is at the 30 kmph level.

E.T.01 Mk IV Tarantula
It's equipped with 4 medium range surface to air missiles, and 2 short range surface to air missiles.  The air surveillance radar gives the impression of the future Destroid Defender.  The lower side of the body is equipped with a machine-gun for close range combat.

E.T.01 Mk V Black Widow
In the final type of E.T., armaments have been strengthened and the payload has been improved.  On the body are a double-barreled 180 mm recoilless gun.  Moreover, the "arms" are equipped with supplemental 3 barrel 50 mm rocket launchers.

Outline of the Development of the E.T:
The thing which is able to say that it is the prototype of the first walking combat machine (which comes to be named Destroid) in the history of mankind, and whose development had started in the early 1990s, before the fall of the Macross.  We're introducing them here; however only one, which was a phantom bird-legged walking type of craft, was left behind and has vanished.
Though the initial, experimental walking machine was named W.V. (Walking Vehicle) at first, it was soon changed to E.T. (Earth Trekker (ground walker)).  The origin of this code is this machine's tottering way of walking and moving on it's short legs; and it is said that its movement looks like the hero of a certain movie that became a worldwide hit in the 1980's.  Though the details are not certain.
This one series in the series (of early walking machines), is the pioneering existance of what later became the development of the Destroids.

Caption: It is understood that the center of gravity (of the Earth Trekkers) is much lower compared to the Destroids.

Pg 5
WRR 02 Mk II Scorpion
At the same time as the Combat use E.T., there was also a trial manufactured work type of E.T., which had what could be called the first "arm" on an E.T..  After the discontinuation of E.T. development, it continued to be used for a while.  A small number where sold to private organizations, where they were they played an active role.

DTR 03 Mk I Dinosaur
The large-scale craft, trial manufactured to make use of a large payload capability on a bird-legged type of E.T..  It is equipped with 2 sets of 5 barreled 200 mm rocket launcers and so on.  This type became the ancestor of the "Monster", the only future bird-legged type of Destroid.

Outline of the Development of the E.T: con't
An improvement in an armoured vehicle's ability to penetrate irregular ground had been tried in various shapes in the latter half of the 1970s.
The method like the M1 tank of the USA, with a new, high powered engine, such as a gas turbine and so on, as well as a structure of two tanks tied front and back like the Swedish UDES-XX-20, which was a method to give a kind of movement like a living thing.
And, in the mid-1990's, the MBT-97 "Fubirai" tank, which aggregates these two methods, is completed and was assumed to be the definitive edition of the caterpillar [tracked] type of tank.
However, at that time a certain country's military must also say the next level, and as a means of a rapid improvement in ability, had started the walking system research.
As for this, the military knew of a thing being secretly developed as a public works machine by a certain vehicle manufacturer, and was the one that was surmised as being able to be put to another use as a weapon.
As for the ambulatory [walking] system, though at first it was thought of walking like the theropod walking type where the knee is lifted like a man, beast and so, it was expected to create a large difficulty in development.  For the time being, development proceeded in the bird-leg walking type, where the tiptoe was lifted like a bird.
As for the merit of the bird-leg type, compared with the theropod type,  because the range of motion is smaller, it is able to have a more sturdy joint, with a simpler structure.  The structural build-up of the entire leg is also simpler, and it was able to support the large weight of the body.  Moreover, the movement range of the centre of gravity when walking is clearly less, and it enabled the E.T to move at a higher-speed than the theropod type.
However, because the auto-balancer was still undeveloped at this time, it was a catastrophe that the centre of gravity couldn't be raised very high.  The short leg was an ability break-through into unsacred ground, and the ability was not very different from the caterpillar [tracked] type (of land vehicle).  As well, the speed wasn't as much as was thought and a weakness was identified which had said that a constructional retreat was difficult.  In the end, the development of the E.T was discontinued.
As for the appearance of a practical type of walking machine, it was necessary to wait until the 21st century, when mankind obtained over-technology.

From Type 01 to 03 of the Anti-Gigantic Alien Walking Weapon (Battle Robot) were finished only as test pieces; Type 04 was the first type made for practical use.  The Mk 1 of this practical use type was given the name "Destroid".  Afterwards, this name became the general name of the army-affiliated walking weapon systems and was made into a common noun.
There is still flexibility in the MBR-04 system, and many developmental types were advanced at the same time.
The MK IV "Tomahawk" is the type in the series that has the strongest firepower.  Out of the initially planned use for hand-to-hand combat with aliens, the Tomahawk became the one with characteristics close to those of a tank, as it is a weapon used to manipulate the aliens by bombardment.  Even in the evaluation of its manoeuvres, it was concluded that the majority of combat would be ended before it became a situation where both of the Tomahawk's arms would be used in hand-to-hand combat; and this was correctly proved in the actual Anti-Zentraadi War.
Furthermore, both arms' beam guns possess independent sighting equipment, and they can aim at different targets.
Moreover, even though the experimental and early mass-production types' camera-eye's polarized shield externally reflects red light, the mass-produced type's polarized shield reflects green light.

Anti-Aircraft Interception Type Defender
2009.03: No1 Production model roll-out.

(Anti-Air Defence Robot) ADR-04 Mk.X DESTROID

Caption: Though it's uncertain what the detailed assignment is ahead for the airframe that's just exited the factory, it appears that it will be a carrier-borne craft on the Daedalus.

Caption: The huge port seen in the back is the heat radiation port for the cooling of the electronic equipment used in aiming.

Caption: The box on the exterior of the guns is the electronically compensating optical aiming device (an extra-large starlight-scope, so to speak).

Caption: The four gun-barrels constantly perceive the same target.  The right and the left barrels don't aim at individual targets.

Concerning the Defender
Total Height: 10.73 m (to the radar)
Gross Weight: 27.1 t
Main Engine: MT828 Thermonuclear Reactor; 2,800 SHP
Sub-Engine: EMT10 Fuel Generator; 510 kW output
Armament: Twin-Barreled Ericon 78 mm Liquid-Cooled Automatic Cannon Type 966PEG Contraves II x2
Firing Rate: the 4 barrels can fire a total of 2,000 rounds per minute.
Number of Shells loaded: 200 shell magazine x2
Crew: 2
Number Loaded on the Daedalus (the Landing-Craft Ship): 40

The MBR-04 MkI "Destroid Mark One" abandoned a complex waist area power relay, and has a thermonuclear reaction engine in the lower half of the body and a fuel engine in the upper half of the body; with methods adopted to use the power of each one, respectively.  Consequently, the upper half of the body which is the part that is equipped with the armaments, can be considerably freely arranged, and ten or more kinds of variations were planned or made for trial purposes (the Tomahawk is also one of those).
Thus, there is the Defender, which was manufactured as an anti-aircraft interception model by installing the Ericon Contraves II system that consecutively fires 78 mm shells at high speed.
This craft, even though it has equipment that was developed as a super long-distance shooting precision-sighting system in order to be able to intercept alien flying weapons in combat in the void of space, had a high price that was an impediment to mass production.
Moreover, though the Contraves II system is highly efficient, it can be said that it had become a little bit old-fashioned in the midst of the development of all sorts of beam weapons.  It had a handicap in space combat because its longest consecutive shooting time is 12 seconds, and its loss rate wasn't low.

[Eardrum Breaker] the eardrum buster

Soldiers in confusion plugging their ears in the thunderous roar that resounds at the same time as the Defender starts shooting.  The shooting sound of the Defender which shoots 8 large shell a second with a high initial velocity is fierce, and it was called "the eardrum buster".

Magazine Mechanism and Sighting Equipment
The freely rotating belt that exits from the lower part of the 200 round magazine that's stored in the shoulder, passes through the area of the arm joint and the auto cannon base and enters the firing chamber.
The sighting mechanism is presumed to be able to be used while under electronic malfunctions, and besides radar, optical systems are widely used.  There are such things as a camera in the center part of the body and a large scope on the outside of the machine-guns.

With a reconnaisance duty [mission] that uses various detection devices, it is possible for the VEFR-1 to use the devices for both ECM (electronic countermeasures) which use the electronic system, and ECCM (Electronic Counter Counter Measures).  In addition, it is possible to use the VEFR-1 for the close-in support of the unmanned Ghost combat air vehicles.  The VEFR-1 is a two-seater craft.

Though various electronic systems can be used even in the form of an airplane, to use it's equipment fully on the battlefield, it must become a battroid.

Finished the Tomahawk pages (well, all except the marking guide).  Man, there were a lot of spelling errors in the previously translated stuff.  Went back and fixed those, as well as reorganized the text somewhat.
